Things to Think About When Buying Organic Bedding

You have become convinced that you want to use eco-friendly organic bedding. Here are some things to think about.

Starting to do anything from scratch can be expensive. So you may want to gradually buy a few items and just keep adding to them. Start by adding organic pillows and pillowcases since these are the things that have contact with your head and face. Gradually add organic sheets, mattress pads and blankets.

Check out and compare prices onine and in stores that carry organic bedding. You will want to use unbleached sheets or those dyed with natural and low eco-impact dyes. You can save money if you buy your organic sheets as a set.

When choosing pillows, choose organic cotton or wool filled pillows. Mattress pads and comforters or blankets can be difficult to find in stores, so you may find them online more easily.

Remember, don’t overdo it. Go gradually, and before you know it, you will have switched out your old sheets and bedding for new organic eco-friendly bedding.

I’m glad to see someone else is out there educating people about the value of organic cotton. Organic cotton is wonderfully soft, and you can feel really good about making the investment. Yes it may cost a bit more, but isn’t your health worth it?

I agree that our health is priceless and unfortunately we realize that sometimes too late, when our body accumulates too much toxins or when the defense system is screaming for help. It’s a bit difficult to imagine that so much harm may come from that innocent bedding or soft and comfortable mattress… But the thing is that possibly we have no opportunity to actually see the production process. The true is that we are surrounded nowadays with toxic things and it’s high time to wake up and as you said – trying to change it gradually finally we may create much healthier bedroom and household. Hopefully the prices of all those things Eco and natural will decrease and will not be a factor when choosing bedding or mattresses for ourselves or or little ones.

    Dikanda,
Thanks for your comment. I agree with you in hoping that prices will come down for organic bedding and mattresses (or anything else eco, for that matter). I believe that lower costs will make eco products more accessible and lead to wider adoption by a great number of people.

We spend about 25% of our lives in our beds. It makes so much sense that they should be healthy, clean and chemical free. As organic bedding becomes more main stream, I think we will begin to see prices become more affordable for the average person.

Another good information and facts are four reasons for growing organic cotton:

    1. Chemical pesticides are not used, and this means that biodiversity flourishes in the agroecosystem ( for example, natural pollinators) exist in large numbers, in a way that fosters a balance between pest and beneficial insects. Moreover, by not using synthetic pesticides, the farmer does not pollute his farm ( water, soil, air, plants and him or her self) reducing the chances of contracting diseases caused by the harmful effects of pesticides on the human body, and fiber will be completely free of these substances.

    2. In the production of organic cotton chemical fertilizers are not used, which prevents nitrate generated pollutants entering the soil, that could endanger water that is in the udersoil. The inputs that farmers use can be obtained on their own farms, reducing the cost of growing cotton.

    3. Organic cotton is grown with other crops, either as crop rotations border crops, intercrops, etc. That is, cotton is managed in a logical system of agronomic, economic and social interactions. These interactions enable farmers, especially the small farmers who represent the majority of cotton farmers in the world, to rely on harvests of other crops, which can help balance diets, generate additional income for the family and provide a better balance in the agroecosystem, among other benefits.

    4. The production of organic cotton allows farmers to integrate and manage their production systems. This allows social benefits for communities of small farmers. Moreover, these processes also give access to other certification schemes such as fair prices (fair trade), access to various types of loans and generate more opportunities to develop a community.

    You agree with this?

We simply cannot sleep on sheets that are not organic anymore. It may be psychological, but they really help us sleep better and longer!

Going green is the only way to go. I buy organic as much as I can for my children and myself. I have organic sheets and I have an organic mattress and bedding for my child as well. There are so many chemicals in today’s society. You have to do everything you can to protect your family.
